The Tuesday Evening drill for Januray 18th, 2011 was a department-wide Professional Rescuer CPR and AED recertification class. All members of the department, both Fire and EMS members, are required to maintain current CPR and AED certifications. We run recertification classes for all members at least once per year (with a makeup day for stragglers) and run CPR drills at least every 6 months to ensure all of our members are ready to respond to the most life threatening call, Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
CPR training consists of Adult, Child, and Infant CPR. this includes Rescue Breathing and the various forms of the Heimleich Maneuver. Additionally, all members recertify on our practice AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Our instructor has a remote control for the practice unit that allows him to cause the unit to replicate various scenarios from "No shock Indicated", to "Shock Advised", to "Check Pads" (in case a pad falls off the patient). This allows us to drill on these life-saving skills and throw curveballs that our members may actually see in a real event.
